Ekhart Wycik ist einer der vielseitigsten Dirigenten seiner Generation. Sein breit gefächertes Repertoire in Oper und Konzert, seine Stilsicherheit und seine Fähigkeit, kurzfristig einzuspringen, haben ihn zu einem gern gesehenen Gast bei Orchestern in ganz Europa gemacht. In der Musikvermittlung ist er kreativer Schöpfer von Formaten und packender Moderator.
2022 sprang er innerhalb weniger Stunden für ein Konzert mit Schostakowitschs 5. Sinfonie mit der Neuen Philharmonie München im Herkulessaal ein. Im Jahr 2018 übernahm er für Christian Thielemann das Abschlusskonzert des 9. Franz-Liszt-Klavierwettbewerbes Weimar - Bayreuth.
Im Musiktheater eröffnete er mit seinem britischen Operndebüt, Mozarts „Zauberflöte“, die 50. Spielzeit der Scottish Opera in Glasgow in der Regie von Sir Thomas Allen. Die Produktion erhielt vom britischen "Guardian" das Prädikat "Top 10 Best Classical Music" in Großbritannien.
Sein italienisches Operndebüt mit „Hänsel und Gretel“ am Teatro Comunale di Bolzano wurde von „operaclick“ als eine der besten Produktionen in Europa ausgezeichnet.
Nach seinem fulminanten Haus-Debüt mit Rimski-Korsakows „Der goldene Hahn“ an der Sarasota Opera in Florida/USA wurde er sofort wieder für "Fidelio" eingeladen.
Im symphonischen Bereich arbeitete Ekhart Wycik in den letzten Jahren mit einer Vielzahl von Orchestern zusammen, darunter das Deutsche Sinfonie-Orchester (DSO) Berlin, die Staatskapelle Halle, die Berliner Symphoniker, die Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, das Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, die Bochumer Sinfoniker, das Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester (RSO) Saarbrücken, das Frankfurter Museumsorchester, die Jenaer Philharmonie, das Haydn-Orchester Bozen und Trient, das Griechische Nationalorchestra Athen, die Lettische Staatsphilharmonie Rīga, sowie Orchester in Österreich, Ungarn, Italien, Großbritannien und den USA.
Ekhart Wycik is one of the most versatile conductors of his generation. In musical communication, he is a creative creator of formats and a captivating presenter.
In 2022, he took over a concert featuring Shostakovich's 5th Symphony with the Neue Philharmonie München in the Herkulessaal within a few hours. In 2018, he substituted for Christian Thielemann at the closing concert of the 9th Franz Liszt Piano Competition Weimar - Bayreuth.
In the pit, his British Opera début, Mozart's "The Magic Flute," opened Glasgow’s Scottish Opera as part of their 50th season, and was recognized by the British "Guardian" as one of UK’s "Top 10 Best Classical Music”.

Ekhart Wycik schloss sein Studium in Düsseldorf und Wien in den Fächern Dirigieren, Musikwissenschaft und Philosophie „mit Auszeichnung“ ab. Ab 1993 wurde er durch das Dirigentenforum des Deutschen Musikrats gefördert und setzte seine Studien in Meisterkursen bei Heinz Rögner/Leipzig, Rolf Reuter/Berlin, Sergiu Celibidache/München und Leif Segerstam/Helsinki fort. Bei den Wiener Meisterkursen und dem Furtwängler-Dirigierworkshop in Mürzzuschlag/Österreich war er Finalist und dirigierte die Abschlusskonzerte.
Nach Kapellmeisterpositionen an verschiedenen Deutschen Opernhäusern war Ekhart Wycik bis 2010 stv. GMD am Theater Dortmund und erweiterte seine Dirigententätigkeit international. Darüberhinaus war er als Erster Gastdirigent an der Wichita Grand Opera in den USA tätig. Seit 2010 unterrichtet er als Dozent an den Musikhochschulen in Saarbrücken, Köln (Opernschule) und Düsseldorf (Dirigieren).
Zu seinem umfangreichen Musiktheater-Repertoire mit über 70 dirigierten Werken zählen u.a. seine eigenen Einstudierungen von „Rosenkavalier“, „Salome“, Rimski-Korsakows „Der goldene Hahn“, Webers "Freischütz“ und den großen Mozart- und Verdi-Opern in Dortmund. Er dirigierte weiterhin Repertoire-Aufführungen wie „Madama Butterfly“, „Tosca“, „Lohengrin“, „Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci“ und Strawinskys „The Rake's Progress“ in Dortmund, „Tosca“ am Landestheater Innsbruck, „The Rake's Progress“ an den Bühnen in Krefeld/Mönchengladbach, die Uraufführung von „Der Prinz von Jemen“ am Staatstheater Darmstadt, und eigene Produktionen von der "Zauberflöte“ in Korea, "Hänsel und Gretel" in Bozen, „Aida“, „La Traviata“, „Fidelio“, „Goldener Hahn“ und „The Pearl Fishers“ in den USA.
Neben seiner Dirigententätigkeit engagiert sich Ekhart Wycik im Bereich des Kulturmarketings und der Musikvermittlung und arbeitete als Radiomoderator für SR2 KulturRadio und als Interviewpartner für den Bayrischen Rundfunk und das DeutschlandRadio Berlin, sowie für die britische BBC und die italienische RAI 3.
Ekhart Wycik wurde als Gastprofessor an die Indiana University/Bloomington eingeladen, wo er neben einem umjubelten Sinfoniekonzert für die Neuinszenierung von „Der Rosenkavalier“ verantwortlich war. Diese Gastprofessur wurde durch ein Stipendium des Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes (DAAD) unterstützt.
2015 - 2022 war er Musikdirektor des Inese Galante Festivals in Riga, Lettland.
Seit Oktober 2016 unterrichtet Ekhart Wycik als Professor für Orchesterdirigieren an der Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT in Weimar, als Nachfolger von Prof. Gunter Kahlert und in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Prof. Nicolás Pasquet. Alumni der Weimarer Dirigierklasse bekleiden führende Positionen bei Orchestern und Opernhäusern in ganz Europa.
Ekhart Wycik completed his studies in conducting, musicology and philosophy in Düsseldorf and Vienna "with distinction". From 1993, he was supported by the Conductors' Forum (Dirigentenforum) of the German Music Council and continued his studies in masterclasses with Heinz Rögner/Leipzig, Rolf Reuter/Berlin, Sergiu Celibidache/Munich and Leif Segerstam/Helsinki. He was a finalist at the Vienna Masterclasses and the Furtwängler Conducting Workshop in Mürzzuschlag/Austria and conducted the final concerts.
Following positions as conductor at various German opera houses, Ekhart Wycik was associated General Music Director at the Dortmund Theatre until 2010 and expanded his conducting activities internationally. Additionally, he served as Principal Guest Conductor at the Wichita Grand Opera in the USA. Since 2010, he has been teaching as a lecturer at the music conservatories in Saarbrücken, Cologne (Opera School), and Düsseldorf (Conducting).
Among his extensive opera repertoire, including over 70 conducted works, he successfully directed his own productions of "Der Rosenkavalier," "Salome", Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Golden Cockerel," Weber's "Der Freischütz", and all major Mozart and Verdi operas in Dortmund. He also conducted repertoire performances such as "Madama Butterfly," "Tosca," "Lohengrin," "Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci", and Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress." His performances included "Tosca" at the Landestheater Innsbruck, "The Rake's Progress" at the Opera Krefeld/Mönchengladbach, as well as the world premiere of "Der Prinz von Jemen" at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, and his own productions of "The Magic Flute" in South Corea, "Aida," "La Traviata," "Fidelio", "Golden Cockerel" and "The Pearl Fishers" in the USA, amongst others.
In addition to his conducting activities, Ekhart Wycik has been involved in cultural marketing and music education, working as a radio host for SR2 KulturRadio and as interview partner for Bayrischer Rundfunk and DeutschlandRadio Berlin, as well as by the British BBC and the Italian RAI 3.
Ekhart Wycik was invited as a guest professor to Indiana University/Bloomington, where he was responsible for the re-staging of "Der Rosenkavalier," alongside a highly acclaimed symphony concert. This guest professorship was supported by a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
2015 - 2022, he served as the Music Director of the Inese Galante Festival in Riga, Latvia.
Since October 2016, Ekhart Wycik holds the position of Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, succeeding Prof. Gunter Kahlert, and working closely in team teaching with Prof. Nicolás Pasquet. Alumni of the Weimar conducting class hold leading positions with orchestras and opera houses across Europe.
